Hey all,

Congrats to Matt V, he looked really good. Look forward to seeing him fight again. Congrats to all of the Hit Squad team.

On to the GSP topic. Alot of us are commenting on how we don't don't like this person or that person. There are very few people posting that really know any of the fighters. So we should all refrain from commenting on how you don't like someone.

I do think that this greasing subject is important. I also think it has now been solved with the new rules instituted by the UFC. In my opinion, I don't think GSP had a clue about vaseline being applied to his back. As to whether his corner did or not, I think they new exactly what they were doing. How could anyone be that dumb. They are professionals. The breathing technique seems like a perfect excuse to transfer this vaseline to GSP's shoulders and back. They could do it without GSP even realising what is going on. Remember, they have
motive. If you are Greg Jackson and you have the champ in your camp, it equals more revenue in the long run. His camps are fairly expensive I am sure. I do not think that GSP would go along with such a scheme. The
training that he does and the amount of heart that he puts into it. I highly doubt he would put so much effort into something only to have it taken away for something so foolish. GSP doesn't need any vaseline to beat anyone.

I am glad all of this has resulted in rule changes that will not allow this to happen again. I also hope to see a rematch between BJ and GSP. I can just about guarantee it would go the same way. BJ thinks he got ripped off because he couldn't use his BJJ. GSP would have nullified BJ's BJJ with or without vaseline. It may have taken a little more effort without vaseline but the outcome would be the same.

So if you are reading this BJ you had better train differently for a rematch with GSP, because if you go in thinking that you lost just due to some vaseline you will have your butt handed to you again. I am still a fan of BJ's by the way. I like GSP and I am still a Matt Hughes fan.

Everyone has to realise that what you see on TV is not the real person. Alot of it is hype to sell tickets. These shows are twisted for the most dramatic effect to help Dana sell tickets. He is smart because it works. It works people up and they get excited for the fight. He is a promoter after all.

Just some opinions. Keep it cool everyone. Take care!!

First of all - thanks Matt V for a real entertaining fight to watch, and thanks Matt H for your part in getting this guy where he is - if he continues to improve WOW. I look forward to following the future fights and wish him well.
Nick has made some good points re GSP.

I asked a question in the blog of the original greasing post - what are fighters initial reactions after losing to GSP. I mean right after the fight is called - I'm guessing fighters are aware of GSPs strength, speed, timing, power etc That GSP is using technique and strategy in his fights should not be forgotten. That GSP was greasy may be an observation, but let's be serious - there's a lot more to GSP than that, and let's not undermine GSP as a man and a fighter. I think people may be forgetting this - if I put on a mountain of vaseline I don't have a chance of beating Matt H or BJ Penn. If BJ is pointing to this the way he is, all it does is make BJ look bad and demonstrate that BJ is in denial regarding other reasons why he may have lost...

I appreciate Matt H integrity in that he has acknowledged with humility times he has lost, giving credit to GSP, and then at the same time he has his other observations - these two facts should go together, and they lend credibility to Matt H in my mind, unlike with BJ. BJ is coming off like the only reason he lost was due to whatever small amounts of grease may or may not have been on GSP, and that's why he's being viewed as a crybaby by so many. At least there were no eye pokes by BJ like in his last two welterweight fights.

There may or may not be deliberate wrongdoing, but people need to separate the issues - even if Jackson and/or nurse did something deliberately wrong let's remember that GSP is a great fighter. For example, when I watch GSPs standup against Hughes and Fitch fights I see some real talent there with timing, controlling distance, great jab technique etc. Let's give GSP the benefit of the doubt, make sure the issues are not repeated, and move on.

Well, what if GSP does use a moisturizer? Is that illegal? No. It is actually healthy especially after a big weight cut. All smart fighters should do it.

There are certain moisturizer that really lock up in your skin until you start sweating profusely, so you can be more slippery in the fight. Yeah it's an advantage, but not an illegal cheating strategy.

Plus, a big blob of vaseline from an eyebrow could be spread over opponent's back when you defend the takedown...or just hitting him when he's inside your guard. You will get slippery.

GSP beat his opponents not by being slippery, but by being stronger, faster, and more technical. Also, smarter.

Hey Matt,

Can't wait for the Serra fight. As far as GSP the guy rubs me the wrong way in general...can't really say why he just does...also maybe you can update us sometimes about the status of Mark's return to fighting. I think it was after you Alves fight you'd mentioned him being ready to sign with the UFC just curious about when that could happen or if it will. But anyway keep on keeping on you inspire all of us!!

GSP and Penn are probably going to meet again. I have a similar body-type to BJ but I know that doing a fair amount of compound exercises (e.g. squats, benches, rows) can easily add some good muscle.

Maybe we'll see a fight with lots less controversy then.

Also, Matt, I hope to see you in top form soon for that fight with Serra. Maybe we'll see a Matt Hughes with some good footwork next time to match up with your excellent power. I know you can do it.

God bless.

Matt,
Thanks for all that you do.
To those who want to accuse Matt, why the double standard? GSP says he didn't grease you defend him, Matt Hughes says he's not accusing GSP of cheating and you in turn accuse Matt of lying or worse.
If GSP knowingly greased, then rest assured Numbers 32:23 applies to him just as it does to us all.

God bless you Matt.

Matt, I agree with Mike that you are the best ever!! I don't agree that you were wrong with what you said and I appreciate your honesty always. Thanks again for the website. Can we talk about your training for Serra and not give GSP our slick superstar anymore attention. God Bless

Matt...you are the best....but you are accusing him...while not openly and directly...of possible cheating.

You said...he felt slick...others told you he felt slick...now you heard it from BJ....and so there might be some validity to the accusation...which is you saying...in retrospect, that you think he might be unnaturally slick. Not a bad thing for you to say that...but it is what you said.
