Matt great site, good post. Just want to quibble with your last statement: while many if not most of the US troops overseas serve for the right reasons, the mission itself has nothing to do with freedom and in fact is far more imperialistic and evil than what the 13 colonies broke away from Britain for. Thomas Jefferson and George Washington wrote extensively as to why they would oppose these kind of imperial overseas adventures that destroy the liberty the US fought so hard for.

Other than that, love your blog, and your insights around the fight game you have given so much to.

Do you think obama celebrated our holiday, or just apologized for our country having such a holiday? I shouldn’t say that about our president, but he makes me so angry when he does some of the things he does. All the men, from many generations in my family and many other families have fought and given their lives up for us to be able to celebrate the 4th of July. Yet the man representing our country has never served in our military. I don’t understand it. Oh well, now that I vented! Hope you and your family has had a very nice holiday. I bet you took out that new atv and broke it in over the holiday didn’t you? Take care and GOD be with you and your family.

Excellent Post. I strongly agree with what you said about Freedom being a gift from “God.” And we do have to fight for our freedoms and continually guard them, Nicely said. It’s been a while Coach Hughes, I hope you and your family are well.

thanks matt, as a veteran myself, i hold dear the celebration of the 4th. those were interesting facts. the liberty bell is also located in pennsylvania just a few miles from independence park…kinda ironic isnt it

Just wanted to say thanks to you for all you do for the US Military. I’m currently serving in Afghanistan. I’m a Military Police Officer in the US Army. I can say I really respect you for the values you display on a daily basis to our God and Country. I’m also motivated to keep pushing on as a fellow 30 something ;-} It’s not easy keepin’ up with these younger soldiers, but if you can still hang with ‘em in the ring, I can still hang with ‘em in the sand!! Hooah! Happy 4th!!
