I am a South African and too come from a religious family and am a God Fearing man myself. Only just got to see who you are when I borrowed a friend of mines DVDs on the UFC and was very impressed with the way you fight, your sportsmanship and values.
To answer your question on the Swine Flu virus…..don’t take it bud! You know that God will bless and look after you. My older brother told me the otherday that there is/was a rumour going around that the reason the swine flu shot is being pressed is that they (not sure who) are going to or have put in a microscopic sized micro chip in the shot to monitor you. I am by no means a dooms profit but in Revalations Jesus does warn us of the “Mark of the Beast” and the end times. I think these methods are a start. Sorry I can’t give you more info.
I see you live on a farm or come from a farming background. I too live on a farm near Cape Town in South Africa. Live there with my wife and 4 year old boy, Gabriel. I am presently working in Baghdad as a PDS but will be home soon for good. Getting into my bow hunting too and am a keen Falconer.
If you are ever in South Africa, you must contact me if you ever want to come hunt on my farm. Got some good game to hunt.

Don’t take that shot. A virus is an ever mutating form and there is no cure. If there were the flu and HIV would have been cured years ago. I believe God designed a perfect digestive system (teeth and saliva in our mouth as the first step in breaking down food, then the acid in our stomach, the nutrients then secreted into our blood stream thru our intestines, etc). A shot by passes God’s design. In an emergency situation, to save one’s life, n fine; otherwise, DON’T Do It. This whole “swine flu” scare is nothing more than Big Pharma’s way to make Big Money.

A good read, but the Adrian Rogers quote troubles me somewhat. I am all for people pulling themselves up by their boot straps but if people aren’t willing to help them get boots, what is to be done? Surely the point of a government is they work FOR us and that means helping people that end up disadvantaged as a result of the unfair economic system used in your country and mine (Britain). The Bible means a lot to both of us and remember that it is easier for the Camel to pass through the eye of the needle than a rich man to enter the kingdom of God (Matthew 19:24).
The student pastor at my church once said it best, the only reason we have money is to give it away to better serve Jesus. Jesus calls on us to help the poor, the less fortunate, the downtrodden and that’s what we have in our society. Sometimes just giving to charity and hoping something happens just doesn’t cut it and we have to be more proactive. In Britain we’re lucky that we have a system (not a perfect one but one that works to some degree) where my tax money goes to mean that people can get free healthcare and help whilst they’re unemployed. Do people abuse that system? Sure they do, people are not perfect as we both know but it’s the people as a whole consenting to a system that holds out its hand and says “I want to help you help yourself” and that to me is very much Christ-like.

As for the H1N1 vac, just remember that the one made by GSK was cultivated in eggs and if you have an allergy you will need the other one. Otherwise, entirely up to you.

There are some risks with the vaccine, but getting the flu is not one of them. Because flu shots are given (of course) during cold/flu season, people may get sick from a cold or other flu strain soon after getting a vaccine and blame it on the shot. That is not the case.

In addition, the H1N1 vaccine is made in the SAME WAY and in the SAME FACILITIES as the seasonal flu shot. The only difference is that it offers protection against the H1N1 strain. Had the H1N1 strain emerged earlier in the season, it simply would have been incorporated into the seasonal vaccine for this year and been administered as one shot. This is not new or experimental medicine. Tens, if not hundreds, of millions of flu shots have been given over the years with an extraordinarily low rate of serious side effects.

Finally, H1N1 is disproportionately affecting children and young adults. Not already-sick children and young adults, but perfectly healthy ones. It seems that the disease burrows deeper into the lungs than the seasonal flu. Opportunistic bacteria can then follow and cause serious, deadly lung infections.

No matter what you decide about the vaccine, please wash your hands or use hand sanitizer regularly and stay home when sick to prevent the spread of disease.
