Trophy Hunters TV

UFC 127

   February 22nd, 2011

This weekend’s UFC is an interesting card for me, with former teammate Spencer Fisher fighting and also local Illinois kid Jason Reinhardt on the card as well. Then, with BJ on the card, it’s just a must-see night of fights for me. I don’t watch all of the UFCs, I’ve really got to be interested in a match-up or have a friend on the card; but this is one of those that I’ve just got to watch.

I think if BJ goes in and does what we worked on, things are going to look really good for him; but sometimes gameplans are hard to implement, so we’ll just see. I can guarantee you that BJ has the tools to win and I think comes out with his hand raised.

The Bonus:

Matt Pena's Bonus

As most of you will remember, before the Almeida fight I had a deal with Jeremy Horn and Matt Pena. If I knocked Almeida out or knocked him down with a punch to win the fight, Matt Pena would get a gun. If I submitted Ricardo Almeida, Jeremy Horn would get a gun. Well, that week of the fights, the discussion got brought up, “What if you knock Ricardo down with a punch and then submit him from that knockdown?” My response was, “Ya both get a gun.” Well, I didn’t think that would happen. To me it was a longshot; but the more I thought about it it came to me, if I win the fight who cares if I have to buy two guns? So at the end of the fight, I knocked Ricardo down with my hook and then I went straight down and finished him with a submission. This next part I’ll never forget: when I get up from choking Almeida, I turn around and look at my corner and the first thing I see is Matt Pena and he’s got a smile on his face, holding two fingers up, saying “Two guns!” And that’s been a joke between us ever since. So this is a picture of Matt holding his bonus. For those of you who don’t know it is a LaRue rifle with a US Optics scope.

i don’t know much about guns, but that thing looks totally badass…and very expensive! did jeremy make out as well?

i really hope BJ pulls this one out. like you said, he has all the tools…he just needs to put it all together and have a good performance.

Abel Says:

Matt Hughes you are a man of your word lol. When is your next fight I hope its in the U.S. so I can go see you :)

bob Says:

ok now I know you americans have this thing about guns ( i know a generalization). But besides for target practice what is the point of a gun that big. Like really is it for hunting down the new line of super animals like the flying squirrel or the electric eel. I just don’t get it.

Brent Says:

Matt, I watched your hunting show for the 1st time a few days ago and really enjoyed it. Im trying to plan a deer hunt to Illinois for next year. Any suggestions on an outfitter? thanks

r-dawg Says:

in being more line with what the bible says, next fight donate 10% of your purse to the charity or church services to the less fortunate of either jeremy or matt’s choosing?

Melinda Says:

My kids & I follow you. I’m a EIU “85 grad. It was cool to see you
add the BIBLE verse. May God bless you. Have fun in your matches,
and please be safe.

Joe Says:

r-dawg, What makes you think he doesn’t support his church with 10% of his earning or give to charities? He seems like a pretty generous guy to me.

Joe Says:

bob, what country are you from?

bob Says:

I call “The Great White North” home eh

John King Says:

Matt, great blog again. BJ looked like Matt Hughes at the beginning taking Fitch down. I just think BJ gets tired to quick at 170 or over powered. Awesome gun, let me in on some of your bets too!! ha. Thanks for the bible verse each week. God Bless

bob Says:

I’m from Canada, eh.

JB Says:

Nice gun, how can I get in your corner!?

r-dawg Says:

hey joe, never said matt didn’t donate to his church. just suggested that as a betting option – pena or horn’s churches may be different from matt’s and maybe the charities they like are different from what hughes likes.

Molly Says:

Watched your show for the first time and loved it! It was very cool to watch you doing something that you have such a passion for! It looked like you were having a blast~( It was the hunt in Texas). As a big fan of yours from the UFC, I love to watch your fights but would be just as happy watching you hunt! Keep doing what makes YOU happy!

Jon Says:

Dang that LaRue rifle is money!!! Pena seems like good people.

Also Matt if you happen upon this. Have you watched a show called “Top Shot” on History Channel? I’ve watched both seasons and was thinking it’d be awesome to have a somewhat famous person on the show. YOU should try out it’d be great to tune in to see you every week.
