GSP Out of UFC 137

   October 19th, 2011

I guess GSP is out of his title fight at UFC 137. All I know is it is some sort of knee injury, but I don’t know how bad or how long he’ll be out. I will go out on a limb and say it doesn’t have to be all that serious for Georges to pull out of the fight, because I know that he likes to make sure he’s 100% before he steps into the octagon.

Well this Thursday I’m going to the World Series with Matt Pena, Robbie Lawler and Tony. I’ve never been to a World Series game, so I hope the weather’s decent. Who knows when the next time the Cards will be there? I know this might come as a surprise for some Cubs fans; but they do play baseball in October. Most of the Chicago area has been in football mode for a little over a month now.

Here are the air times for this week’s episode of Trophy Hunters TV that I’m hosting, on the Outdoor Channel:

All the best to you Matt!! My husband and I have just been introduced to Cage Fitness in a conversation with a friend at our local gym in GALWAY, IRELAND. He’s looking to get some classes going in this area and we’ll be the first on the list. We also were delighted to see you are a Brother in Christ! Every blessing in Him, Rebecca

Jon Says:

GSP is fighting? LOL! I guess I better start watching UFC more, I only watch if Matt is coaching or fighting. The fights are not the same anymore, and I doubt GSP will have a record of 45-2!

TEAM HUGHES! ! ! RULZ!

john Says:

i hope you enjoyed the game!
as for georges….well this isn’t the first time he pulled out of a fight because of a sprain. he did the same thing to you a few years ago. i’m sure after a few days of rest, he’ll be fine. i think maybe he just watched some film on condit and realized he needs a little more time to prepare. either that or he cut his cycle too close and didn’t want to piss hot. can’t let his nut-hugging fans down now, can he?!!

bob Says:

really john you are making a statement that GSP is on roids. What evidence do you have? what proof do you have to make such a statement? Making a slanderous comment like that is just wrong. GSP has always tested clean and so has matt hughes. If someone made a statement that matt is on steroids without anything to back it up with most of the people on that follow this site would be up in arms. And that comment would be pulled from this site instantly. As for GSP pulling out of his condit fight, yeah I’m pretty ticked right now. But I’m not St.Pierre and neither are you or Matt. So for anyone to make a judgement call on how bad or not bad someone is hurt is pretty petty. No one knows but GSP and his camp. So leave it at that.

Howard Mckellum Says:

Well considering that several top-ranked fighters have come out saying that they suspect GSP of taking some sort of PED, it’s not that far fetched to think John may be on to something. As far as evidence goes, it’s pretty much right there before our eyes. Anyone with experience in PED’s can see the signs. It doesn’t take a genius to see that he’s working the system. As for testing clean, there’s not a chance the UFC is really surprising their cash cow with truly random testing. He knows well in advance and it’s very easy (if you know what you’re doing) to cycle on and off without ever testing positive. I’m not saying that’s what’s going on here, but to blindly defend someone that has been suspected of doing this for years by credible people in the business, is pretty short-sighted, Bob.

As far as his knee sprain, it’s just that. A sprain. With a few days rest, I’m sure he’ll be right as rain. Kind of like the last time when he pulled out due to a sprained ankle. He was walking around and training just fine during fight week. It happens to fighters all the time and most (guys like Anderson, Hughes, Koscheck, BJ, etc…) still show up to fight. Anderson was far more injured before his last few fights (fractured rib, separated shoulder), yet went on to finish his opponents in spectacular fashion. That’s what legendary fighters do.

The fact is that GSP likes to have everything perfectly aligned before each fight. He doesn’t take well to adversity. the change in opponent, the fact the fight isn’t fighting in Canada like pretty much all his fights are these days, add in a small injury and it’s too much for him to handle. He said yesterday that he needed a vacation before he starts to train again for Condit. He fights 1 or 2 times a year. He’s always on vacation. How this guy is so popular is beyond me. He pretty much does everything a fight fan hates, yet people still love him and defend him. It’s bizarre.

Mikey Says:

lol Rashad pulls out of a fight because of a knee sprain and nobody talks about it, GSP has a knee sprain and everyones all over him. Regardless, I hope you’re enjoying your time off Matt, and managed to get some huntin’ in. Whether you retire or continue to fight it’s really your choice. In your next blog let us know how your meeting went with D.W!

John King Says:

Matt, Thanks for updating your website. Have fun at the game. Good luck hunting and God Bless!!

Dave Says:

Lol love the dig on the Cubbies. We Whitesox fans are pulling for the Cards just to see Cubs fans get pissed.
Agree with Matt and John. GSP is a mental case. If he even feels like his sprain could effect his perfect practice. He would call Dana. War Penn Sat. !!

John in Rockwall Tx. Says:

Matt, We have a mutual friend Jeff Swinger, and unfortunately he is a Cardinal fan also. This post season has been fun ripping on eachother, unfortunately we were at his house on saturday night when the cards just killed us. I hope you had a great time watching the game. GO RANGERS

joey Says:

Your the man matt!!

Dave Says:

Hey Andrew. Take GSP jock off your face and read what Matt said. It’s a fact GSP likes been 100 percent. He said it himself. So Matt statement is fact. Also we know GSP doesn’t do steroids.,………. He puts hand full of vaseline all over himself to get the upper hand on fighters. Geez everyone knows that.

NateR Says:

I deleted Andrew’s comment because of it’s disrespectful tone. Respectful disagreement is allowed, but bashing or insulting is not. If anyone is unclear as to why, it’s pretty simple: Matt pays to keep this this website running for his fans first and foremost. If you are not a fan of Matt’s or you simply feel the urge to bash him for anything he has said here, then there are plenty of websites out there where you can do just that; but this is NOT one of them.

darren Says:

nate, i guess its ok to bash and insult other fighters on this site though huh. just not hughes

NateR Says:

Darren, the URL of this website is matt-hughes.com and this surprises you? The way I see it is this: Matt paid to set up this site and pays to keep it running out of his own pocket. So, when you are here you are effectively a guest on Matt Hughes’ private property and should conduct yourself accordingly – which includes being respectful towards the owner of this property. As long as Matt is paying me to maintain this website, that’s how things are going to work here. If you don’t like it, well I’m sorry. Unless Matt specifically tells me to allow internet trolls to bash and personally insult him on his own website, then it’s not going to change.

chris coleman Says:

well said nateR if some of these people that bash matt would take the time to read what he actually said then i dont think they would have a problem. people i think are misunderstanding. matt is my hero and i totally agree with what u say.

Ministry Addict Says:

Great Bible Verse for this post – Psalm 90:17. What joy there is in realizing that God alone is worthy of worship and praise! What peace and power there is in knowing that there is only one Mediator between God and man – the man Christ Jesus! In God’s creation, man can find anything he wants. But only in God Himself can man find what he truly needs.

“Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.” Psalm 73:25

Doug R Says:

Thanks for the site Matt and the update on GSP.
Can’t go wrong keeping comments on this board respectful men.
Sure seems easy to bash a fighter on anybody else from behind a keyboard.
