Happy 4th of July!

Just wanted to wish everybody a Happy 4th of July and I hope everyone enjoys themselves. As I’m sure you all know, July 4th celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the day when our country broke all ties to England and declared itself a free nation. Of course, becoming a free nation involves a lot more than just signing a piece of paper. Our liberty had to be won through years of hardship and war. America’s founders understood that freedom is a gift from God, but those freedoms are never freely given to us in this world. We have to fight for them and continually guard them.

Some interesting facts about July 4th, even though it celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence, that signing wasn’t completed until August of 1776. The very first Independence Day celebration actually took place on July 8th, 1776; but it was celebrated on July 4th every year after that until it finally became a legal holiday in 1941. The Declaration of Independence was signed late in the afternoon, on July 4th, 1776, after going through several revisions. Of the 13 colonies, 9 voted in favor of it, 2 voted against it (Pennsylvania and South Carolina), Delaware was undecided and New York abstained. Even though Pennsylvania voted against the Declaration, the first newspaper to print it was the Pennsylvania Evening Post, on July 6th, 1776, and the entire document was first read aloud to the public in Philadelphia’s Independence Square, on July 8th, 1776. Just thought I would share some interesting facts about the July 4th holiday itself.

Finally, I wanted to say “THANK YOU” to all the troops serving overseas. Without your sacrifice we couldn’t continue to be a free country. Stay safe out there, we’re all praying for you and for your safe return.

I hope everyone has a great 4th of July. -matt

Most of you have probably already heard about the car accident that claimed the life of TapouT co-founder, Mask. This comes straight off of their website:

DEAREST FRIENDS AND FAMILY
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we must regretfully confirm the passing of our beloved friend, brother and co-founder Charles “Mask” Lewis following a car accident that occurred last night. We are currently in the process of setting up a memorial service in his honor and will release more details as they become available.

Many thanks to all for the outpouring of blessings and well-wishes during this incredibly difficult time.
